WISe joins the discussion on mental health diagnosis, management and treatment. There are currently about 8 million people in the United States with PTSD. Veterans, civilian survivors of sexual assault, those impacted by the pandemic, serious accidents, natural disasters, or other traumatic events need to understand that treatments really do work and can lead to a better quality of life.

About Courtney Carroll
Courtney Carroll, LPC studied public health at The Tennessee State University. She received her Master’s degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling at Cincinnati Christian University. Courtney is passionate about her community and serving them intentionally. About Maria Espinola, Psy.D
Dr. Maria Espinola is a licensed psychologist with expertise in diversity, women’s issues, and trauma. Dr. Espinola was born and raised in Argentina. She studied psychology at the University of Buenos Aires before immigrating to the U.S. in 2001. She completed her doctorate in clinical psychology at Nova Southeastern University, her pre-doctoral fellowship in multicultural psychology at Boston University Medical Center, and her post-doctoral fellowship in trauma psychology at McLean Hospital and Harvard Medical School. Dr. Espinola is Assistant Professor in the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Neuroscience at the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine and a media psychologist. She has received over 25 awards for leadership, diversity initiatives, innovation, and community impact. About Gina Maccarone, MD
Dr. Maccarone is a general surgeon at The Christ Hospital. She has additional certification in trauma and critical care after completing a fellowship at University Hospital in Cincinnati, a Level I Trauma Center. Here she developed extensive experience with trauma and ICU patients, working directly with local first responders.
