Tired of Delegating? Spice Up Office Life through Matchmaking
Monday feels like Tuesday feels like Wednesday feels like ugh. It’s been months since some kind of moment happened at work that captured your imagination. You’ve got “work rut”: the staleness that comes from working on the same tasks repetitively. It’s time to address this office epidemic and turn ho-hum around.
Treat the problem by matchmaking. Some call this delegating. Either way, it’s not a blind set-up. After all, you know the tasks and you know your people. Pair like with like and watch sparks fly.
“Maybe it’s time to break up with some of your tasks and match them up with a new partner. Spice up everyone’s job life a little.” Cathy Lindemann, WISe Business Coach in Residence
Identify the tasks that weigh you down and consider the talents needed to accomplish those tasks. Duties you think of as time vampires, mundane chores and busywork could be an exciting challenge for another employee.
Got a perfectionist on your team? They would probably love to re-org the stockroom. Consider asking your gregarious desk staff if they’d like to learn sales skills and work trade shows. The person who is always bringing in food for staff might be the right one to plan your staff social gathering.
For a fun twist, hold an office rose ceremony and hand out tasks attached to roses. You’ll lighten your load while making staff feel noticed and appreciated.
Have your staff complete a personality assessment like this assessment from WISe and use these insights to successfully couple tasks with people. Let the matchmaking begin!
